LET ME SHOW YOU by Demi Boelsterli

LET ME SHOW YOU

It says a lot that Demi originally wanted her solo show to be called:
“I can’t bear to tell you, let me show you. “
Because sometimes words don’t do feelings justice.

But, it would be ridiculous to name a show something that long.
So she landed on: “Let Me Show you.”

This show is Demi’s expression of love and all the feelings that come with it. The highs, the lows, the sideways emotions. All of them. It is a visual interpretation of feelings in the best way she knows how: found objects, painting, words, poems, film.

A shrine representing the sacrifices we make for love smacks you in the face upon entering.
An experiential installation showcasing the cyclical nature of feelings, filled with love notes and coping skills, leads you into the colorful representation of Demi’s mind. Thousands of little knick knacks fill the space, each intentionally placed, ask her, she’ll explain the purpose of it all.
With every piece you get a little closer to experiencing Demi’s world as she feels it. A full force.

Demi is a romantic, and a realist.
She recognizes that life is a game and love is a force.
All we can do is play.
And feel stuff.

Interview with Erik Sommer of Mott Projects

We sat down with New York based contemporary artist Erik Sommer to pick his brain about the birth of Mott Projects, his unique approach to the art world, and why getting dinner with Helen Frankenthaler would be fun.

SPORTS by Loser Angeles

Sports is a series that exaggerates the ghastly parts suppressed in the everyman’s id and ego, and focuses on our collective celebration of physical idealism; more specifically, the psychology behind our elevation and adoration of certain individuals. This series includes selections from a body of work made over the last two years in Los Angeles.

PORTALS by Jake Joseph

PORTALS  was created this year during time spent painting in Joseph’s home studio, studio in Downtown Los Angeles, and during a month long residency at 1700 Naud. Throughout the fairly regular start to the new year, the quarantine, then through periods of social unrest and political animosity, Jake Joseph has been internalizing all of this very real dose of life that feels imaginary and translating his thoughts and feelings about all of this into this series.

While all of us are worried about how we will survive this, we caught up with The MAC to see if he’s still staying afloat and breathing. After asking him a few questions, it turns out he’s thriving. We’re not surprised - but we are damn proud and inspired.

SHIT ART SHOW 4: SCHOOL’S OUT

Shit Art Show #4: School's Out is a celebration of life. As the world has been cooped up for the past year, the idea behind the show is to emphasize a positive outlook on the future. Bringing it back to the childhood days, when life was simple, we curated SAS#4 to showcase emerging and established artists we believe have been able hold on to their youth. Shit Art Club has transformed our gallery into a playground, complete with functioning installations that invite the viewer to interact. This exhibition is designed to bring like-minded artists and the community under the same roof to share the common goal of having fun.

The artists participating in this year’s exhibition include: Coulter Jacobs, Iryna Maksymova, Alexis E. Mabry, Chasen Wolcott, Hetty Douglas, Colin Holloway, Jacob Gerard, Taj Matumbi, Thomas Whittaker Kidd, Loser Angeles, and the Mac.
